8. Rethinking Anonymity: Teaching Identity Management in the age of Ubiquitous Internet Presence (presentation, single) (21 participants registered)David Nutbean & Phillipe Gourard, Teachers, Portage la Prairie School DivisionStudents love Facebook. And so do employers. In fact, many if not all companies will regularly scour Facebook profiles to see if someone is suitable for a position. If your activities on Facebook show little self-control and sketchy behavior, chances are you will not be hired. Like it or not, our online identities are becoming our only identities to the world. Being careful what you put online and how you are perceived via social media can have real consequences on your current life and future prospects. In this session, Philippe Girouard outlined the realities of controlling your online identity for future success. It is not only imperative that students clean up their social presence on the internet, but they actively contribute to a positive identity online with the 5 major social networks: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Google+ In a global employment market, having no online presence almost worse than a bad online presence.Intro to Identity Management.pdfPhilippe Girouard on Identity Management.pdf

It is the pedagogy - HOW WE TEACH - NOT THE TECHNOLOGY that is IMPORTANT
All the technology in the world will not help poor pedagogical practices; in fact the technology amplifies the problem. Ask any high school student who is forced to copy page after page of notes from a SMART board what they think of the technology.
